Who are we?
Griffiths Drilling is a Wellington-based operation, specialising in geotechnical
drilling and construction projects throughout New Zealand and the surrounding Islands. Our
experience encompasses some of the largest, and most technically challenging drilling
projects in New Zealand.
Our specialties
Griffiths Drilling is primarily engaged in the project management and operation of
geotechnical investigation and exploration. We have a very strong geological knowledge of
the Wellington region and many other areas within New Zealand. We also specialise in water
bore projects and construction drilling including anchor, soil nailing and sub-soil
drainage.
Beginnings
The company was established in 1971 by Gordon Griffiths. Gordon had built a solid
reputation drilling with other organisations all over New Zealand since 1950. As an
independent company, we established ourselves quickly, carrying out geotechnical
exploration and water bore drilling all over the country and securing two of New Zealand’s
biggest drilling contracts of the 1970s; the new Wellington motorway (1971-1973), and Clyde
Dam (1975-1976).
Griffiths Drilling is one of the founding members of the New Zealand Drilling
Federation, in fact Gordon is a life member and Mel has been on the council for over a
decade and is currently the President.
Leading Griffiths Drilling into the futureMel Griffiths has
been Managing Director of Griffiths Drilling since 1994. Building on Gordon’s extensive
geotechnical drilling knowledge, Mel has injected his own energy and drive into the
company, bringing us up to date in new technology and innovations in drilling practices,
and propelling the company forward as a leader in the geotechnical field.
Strong in safety and drilling serviceDrilling can be
challenging and dangerous work. We operate tight quality and health and safety systems that
enable us to carry out high profile or environmentally sensitive projects, and projects
with high OSH requirements. Our protocols have earned us respect in the industry. The
confidence placed in us has been proven time after time, and we pride ourselves on the
strong relationships we have built with our clients.
